Hard Drive Certification

Computer Storage Services has a dedicated fully housed lab for certifying and testing hard drives in the African market.

Today, hard drives are the most important device in your computer.  They are used to store priceless data

and information – at home, or at the office.  The reality is that, the Annual Failure Rate (AFR) on a hard drive today is about 4%.  With the specialised technology utilised by the company, this failure rate is reduced to about 0.6% .

How Drives are certified:

Today, a Hard Drive is manufactured in roughly 25 seconds.  Due to the margins and price pressure in this industry, a manufacturer can no longer perform a quality assurance test on every single drive manufactured.  This unfortunately results in the inability to detect a potentially defective drive until it’s too late.

With the patented and award winning technology used by Computer Storage Services, the drive attributes; firmware; ability to seek read and write at optimal pace is measured.  During testing, the smart values are closely monitored to see if any deviations occur that would result in the software picking up, or detecting a potential drive failure.  These drives will then be isolated and marked accordingly

During the burn-in process, which can last up to six hours per drive, the drives are further optimised in a unique manner to allow for the device to work at its best.  This certification process guarantees the performance of the drive, ensuring it will not fail.

How much does it cost?

This depends on the volume of hard drives, but the average cost for a re-certification of a hard drive is approximately R 38.
